The Sierra Canyon Lower School campus is located on 16 bucolic acres in the rural San Fernando Valley community of Chatsworth in the northwest corner of greater Los Angeles, and is easily accessed from the 405, 101, and 118 freeways. The park-like campus features more than 700 trees, groomed lawns, and beautiful flowers. Spring 2003 brought the completion of a 10-acre expansion, with the addition of new, improved sports fields, playground, and basketball courts. For our equestrian neighbors, this development also features a custom designed and meticulously maintained horse trail, which continues into Brown’s Canyon. As the campus continues to evolve, the administration ensures that the rustic feel is maintained, while incorporating state-of-the-art educational facilities.
Parent volunteers are a vital component of the Sierra Canyon Way. In addition to a very active Parent Association, over 200 Sierra Canyon parents volunteer their time in the classrooms annually. Parents also work on the lunch line serving snacks and hot lunches, and are tireless in their efforts to augment the annual all-school fair and open house.

Often characterized as a regional center, Sierra Canyon draws students from throughout the San Fernando Valley and surrounding areas. Students come to the school from many communities, such as Simi Valley, the Santa Clarita Valley, the Westside, and the Antelope Valley. In recent years, the largest influx of students has been from the Calabasas/Hidden Hills/Woodland Hills area.
Sierra Canyon contracts with Tumbleweed Transportation to provide bus transportation to and from ten shuttle stops in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys. Tumbleweed is an independent contractor that specializes in serving private, independent schools. At Sierra Canyon, our number one priority is to transport our students in a safe and timely manner.
Uniforms are not required for students at Sierra Canyon. A dress code is enforced for students in grades 1 – 8. The overall goal of the administration is for students to dress in a manner that is appropriate to the learning environment. Early Kindergarten and Kindergarten students are asked to dress in a comfortable, safe manner appropriate to the more active environments of these early grades.
Morning snacks are delivered to Early Kindergarten and Kindergarten areas. All other grades come to the Orange Grove eating area, where they may have complimentary graham crackers and milk, or make a selection from a variety of nutritious snacks available for purchase.
Hot lunches are catered by California Fresh, and feature a wide selection of lunches available for purchase on a daily basis. The lunch
menu is published in advance monthly. Students order their lunches in homeroom on a daily basis.
